So, I'm back, for now, just to do the year in review memes and my January-December Draw This Again Challenge as a yearly tradition of mine, a time for self-reflection that I simply must do because it is fun, at the same time insightful, to look back on who I was when the year began and then to compare that bloke to who I am today. :)

Truth be told, I probably will not be around again for much longer. I'm 25, and at that point in life when adult responsibilities take over. A lot of stuff has been going on that I could not really take my time to create content worth submitting here. Even my Reddit account I made for r/Daily3D died down with my account's recent [in]activity.

A summary of some of the stuff that went on during my hiatus

  • I got a promotion to assistant team leader for the rendering team in the architectural firm I work for, and although I do enjoy the job, man, is it a lot of work and a shit ton of new things to learn. The responsibility of handling, training, and supervising people is entirely new territory to me, and being a socially-bumbling aspie makes this very people-oriented job even more of a challenge than it should be. With school being mostly a contest of popularity, I was never really popular enough to ever get elected as president or group leader of anything, so yeah. No experience with this whole 'leadership' thing. And in the one time I did earn my leadership post as a cadet officer back in high school, I honestly sucked at it. I can do this one, though. I'm fortunate enough to have met people at work who do understand and support me. The boss believed in me enough to give me this promotion. \m/
  • I'm working on the architectural plans for a proposed renovation for my home back in the Philippines. My parents commissioned me to work on the architectural plans for our house, mostly as a retirement thing for my dad. Most of the stuff I did was in preparation for the day they eventually cannot climb the stairs anymore and would need an in-house nurse to care for them. I would then also need to settle the paperwork needed to get the house done such as local government area [barangay] approvals and permits.
  • My brother recently had a surgery. I won't say much more about this.
So, yeah. That would leave me with almost no time to create content worth uploading to DeviantArt, Fanfiction.net, and all the other sites I usually upload stuff in. And with the little time I can carve out, I would not be able to finish my artworks and stories to a point I deem them to be worth uploading. And sometimes, I simply want to do something else, like work out, play video games, or study just for the sake of learning.

However...

Draw This Again Meme - 2017 by el-Jimmeister

I did manage to find some time during this holiday season to go back to my Wacom tablet and Photoshop, and draw something again. It really has been a long time since I drew anything at all by hand/stylus, with most of my creative work being digital 3D modelling, CAD, and V-ray rendering, so I'm quite rusty.

Usually, I would upload this redraw on the 31st of December, but since the holidays are also keeping me busy, I will not be around for the end of the year.

And Without Further Ado, the Meme.

This year I have...

Gotten a new piercing.
Dyed my hair.
[Medium brown on some strands.]
Ended a relationship.
Started a new relationship. [Nope. Still single.]
Been on a long car journey.
Passed an exam.
Cried on someone's shoulder.
Had a massive fight with a boyfriend/girlfriend. [Nope. I'm still single.]
Received flowers. [Ditto.]
Had a valentine. [Ditto.]
Written a letter using pen and paper.
Gone to see a therapist.
Been prescribed medication by a doctor.
Read a really good book. [A fanfic, rather. It's a Miles/Waylon Outlast fanfic called Shadow Engines.]
Gone to the zoo.
Spent too much money on unnecessary things. [Always been frugal with money.]
Traveled by train.
Cried over someone.
Spent a day out in the sun getting a tan. [Nope. Rather be pale.]
Slammed a door out of frustration
Had an anxiety/panic attack. [Too often.]
Had a BBQ.
Gone to the fair.
Gone bowling.
Seen a film at the cinema in 3D.
Gone on a date. [Nope.]
Helped someone home after they’d had too much to drink.
Stayed up all night. [This is ordinary fare for an architect and/or someone who worries a whole lot.]
Talked on the phone for over 2 hours.
Supported someone who’d received bad news. [Helped mom and dad cope with the stress of having my brother undergo surgery.]
Watched some kind of live sporting event.
Read an entire book in one day. [An entire serial fanfic, rather.]
Bought a DVD the day it was released.
Eaten McDonald’s more than four times in a single week. [Nope. Shit's not good for ya.]
Cried as a result of exam stress.
Met some incredible new people. [The people I'm training for the rendering team.]
Fallen backwards off a chair.
Broken my glasses. [No glasses.]
Cried over someone in my past.
Spent hours aimlessly browsing the internet.
Cried over a film. [Not really a film, but another heartwarming gaming moment, this time in Fallout 4, when I got the Prevent medicine for MacCready and chose him as my Sole Survivor's romantic partner.]
Gone out of my way to avoid an ex-significant other. [We're still okay. Just not romantically anymore.]
Been in a relationship for a year or longer. [Been out of one, rather.]
Been ice skating.
Seen a musical or play.
Traveled out of my state or country.
Swam (in a pool).
Swam (in the ocean).
Been in a hospital.
Fallen down the stairs.
Discovered something new about myself. [That I can actually do this 'leadership' thing okay, although with much challenge. Also, that I have become a vocel due to prioritizing my work first.]

1. Was 2017 a good year for you? Why?
Kinda... Had its own ups and downs. Below average, and too much life-changing stuff happened. My creative work[outside of my job] has been dampened. The promotion was almost my only solace. I just wish I had more time to do all the things I planned to. Or that I managed my time better.

2. What was your favorite moment of the year?
Getting the promotion.

3. What was your least favorite moment of the year?
Christmas Day. I went home to Manila for the holidays, as well as to continue working on the house renovation architectural plans, only to spend it hearing my dad worry about post-retirement finances over breakfast. On Christmas Day. Gimme a break.

4. Where were you when 2017 began?
At my home in Manila

5. Who were you with?
Family.

6. Where will you be when 2017 ends?
At my home in Manila, doing some more work on the house's floor plans.

7. Who will you be with when 2017 ends?
Family.

8. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions of 2017?

To make more time for myself so that I can complete more of the stuff I have on my checklist of ways to better myself.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Nope.

9. Do you have New Year's Resolution(s) for 2018?
To just become better at something. To learn a new skill, even if I end up still being a noob at that new skill by the end of the year. At least learn the basics.

10. Did you fall in love in 2017?
Nope. Lost interest in romance [and in turn, marriage and starting a family] along the way; got too busy with work to even think about falling in love. I am a vocel now.

11. If yes, with who?
Nah...

12. If yes, do they know?
Nah...

13. Are you still in love with them?
Nah...

15. Did you break up with anyone in 2017?
Nope.

16. Did you make any new friends in 2017?
Sure.

17. Who are your favorite new friends?
Nope.

18. What was your favorite month of 2017?
None. This year was meh for me. [As was last year.]

19. Did you travel outside of your country of residence in 2017?
Yep. I'm in Manila right now. New Year is about to begin soon.

20. How many different states / provinces did you travel to in 2017?
Three.

21. Did you lose anybody close to you in 2017?
Not really.

22. Did you miss anybody in the past year?
An old friend of mine.

23. What was your favorite movie that you saw in 2017?
Didn't see any movies this year.

24. What was your favorite song from 2017?
I can't really decide.

25. What was your favorite record from 2017?
Again, can't decide. Any of the new rock, metal, and post-hardcore songs, really.
Cold Like War, that new We Came as Romans album, is pretty awesome though.

26. How many concerts did you see in 2017?
None, been too busy adulting.

27. Did you have a favorite concert in 2017?

Ditto.

28. Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2017?

Yep. I needed to.

29. Did you do a lot of drugs in 2017?
Nope. I'll never do drugs.

30. How many people did you sleep with in 2017?
None. Vocel mode got activated at some point.

31. Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?
My long hiatus.

33. What was the worst lie someone told you in 2017?
That I'll have enough time to do all the things I plan to do. A lie from myself. [Same shit as last year.]

35. Did somebody treat you badly in 2017?
...again, probably the people who voted Trump into office. Not exactly good news for some middle class, immigrant bisexual dude who looks like a lady. But on a more personal level, none.

36. How much money did you spend in 2017?

Average. I'm a pretty frugal guy. But I still end up broke-ass at some points.

37. What was your proudest moment of 2017?
Promotion

38. What was your most embarrassing moment of 2017?
When I published chapter 1 of my Chris Raven/Jake Conway smutfic and never followed up with it. I will, though. Eventually. After I finish cringing at my godawful smut writing.

39. If you could go back in time to any moment of 2017 and change
Well, no matter where/when I go back, I'll always be preoccupied with responsibilities that I will need to deal with, so none. No good, pivotal time to go back. I'll probably just do the same tedious adult responsibilities anyway and end up on the most boring groundhog day loop ever.

40. What are your plans for 2018?
Ideally, to have more time to do creative work [other than those required of my job] and pursue my other passions.
[The following bullet list of specific plans is mostly copy-pasted from the 2016 version of this meme]
  • actually do ten pull-ups
  • learn basic parkour
  • continue Image, and hopefully complete it by the end of 2018
  • continue the One Less Lonely Gurl remake
  • rewrite Plankton's Eye View
  • continue Ride to Raven's Cry
  • improve at basically everything
  • learn 3D character modeling
  • work on getting my V-line to become more defined. ;)
But realistically, I will not be here as often as I would like to, because I will pursue my career, my home renovation, and other things I would like to improve about myself that will reduce my time to create content worth uploading. And that is why social media is not really my thing. The pressure to upload stuff every day and make your life seem awesomer than it is, is real- the only real thing about social media.

Alright, here be a few questions :iconphantomoflove: thought up for the classic "stranded on a desert island" scenario. These questions are assuming you are equipped with all the appropriate/necessary devices to enjoy the luxuries involved in these questions.

I took this from a journal entry by :iconps2girl:, a random dA user who gave me a llama recently. It was actually dated 2009, and it was their most recent journal entry as of this post date, but here I am, in 2017, reviving this journal meme thing.

If you were stranded on a desert island...

1. What 8 CDs/casettes/records/etc would you want to have with you? (no mix CDs or anything like that)
Metallica - Ride the Lightning, The Black Album, Hardwired... to Self-Destruct, Death Magnetic
Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare
Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast, The Book of Souls

Picked mostly because I like these bands, and also because these albums have lengthy songs in them, so I do not get bored.

2. What 4 movies?
The four Shrek movies, because Shrek is love, Shrek is life. 'nuff said.

3. What 6 books?
Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand
Mahābhārata [English translation] - Vyasa
War and Peace [English translation] - Leo Tolstoy
How to Survive on a Deserted Island - Tim O'Shei
The Wilderness Cookbook - Bonnie McTaggart
The thickest edition of Webster's Dictionary

4. Any special foods or drinks for your last days? No more than a week's supply.

Drinks - 1 week supply of coffee, milk, desalinated water, and beer
Food that can last a week - 1 whole chocolate cake

Day 1
Pita bread with tuna and mayo filling
Four cheese white pizza
Shio ramen

Day 2
Tuna pesto pasta [for the whole day]

Day 3
Toasted wheat bread with butter
Chicken piccata
Sizzling beef cuts served with brown rice and cheese sauce

Day 4
Spaghetti with meatballs [for the whole day]

Day 5
Grilled chicken fillet in Italian salsa verde sauce, served with herbed rice, carrots, and string beans
Pizza in tomato sauce, topped with pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and bell peppers
California maki

Day 6
Carbonara [for the whole day]

Day 7
Chicken rice bowl in butter and pepper
Mildly spicy ramen in basil and cheese soup
Four cheese pizza in tomato sauce

5. Any other 1 object you would want with you? (nothing that will assist or facilitate your escape from the island)

A guitar. This is assuming that I cannot have a computer or internet because of the 8-CD, 4-movie, and 6-book limit and I'm stuck only with a DVD/CD player that for some reason never needs recharging. [Maybe it's solar-powered?] Also because computers and internet can assist my escape from the island. I'm just one Reddit post away from rescue if I have internet on the island. Or I'll just choose to never leave.

6. Any last-minute passions you want to indulge? Things you've always wanted to do, but never have? (of course, you're restricted to what you can do on the island, but it's worth asking)

Swing through vines like Tarzan. Do things outdoors that I couldn't do in the outdoors of a city. Or practice my death metal growls without being judged.

7. Say you have only one meal left. You see a guy swimming towards the shore, having survived a shipwreck. What do you do?
a. kill him for more food
b. share your last meal with him
c. hide from him and eat before he finds you
d. scarf your food in front of him
e. other (explain)

B, then E. Share my beer and pizza with him, and depending on how attractive he is...

8. Suppose on day 7 you're desperately scanning the horizon with your binoculars (yes, you have binoculars!) and you see an extremely attractive person (whichever sex you prefer) on the neighboring island. The tide is kinda rough, you know the waters are shark-infested, and the island is a mile away. Would you risk swimming across to get that one last shag?
No, because I can't swim. But I would risk calluses on my otherwise-pretty hands to make a life vest and a raft so that I can get to the other island. I'll also bring weapons with me just in case.

9. What 1 person (personal acquaintance or celebrity or whatever) would you want to be with you the most during the 1 week?
I do not wish the predicament of being stuck on a deserted island on anyone, if only for the sole purpose of being stuck with no one else but me.

About My Stamps

5 min read
Yeah, I'll expand on my status update before this as a journal entry.

Some time ago, I have mentioned that I'm done with the drama, vitriol, and toxicity that comes with being a maker of controversial stamps. It's been a long time coming, and in fact, it's been a while since I have made any stamps in the first place. My latest stamp as of this post is The Light, made in January 2016. Just recently, I have stored ALL my stamps that have something to do with LGBT and/or religion.

Aside from the aforementioned LGBT and religion topics, I will also no longer make stamps that have anything to do with the following:
  • Abortion, pro-life, pro-choice
  • Feminism, gender equality, men's rights activism, red pill stuff
  • Gun Rights, school shootings
  • Mental disorders of any kind
  • Politics, both left and right wing
  • Racism, X Lives Matter
  • Sex, pornography
  • Sexual harassment, rape
  • Sexuality, gender identity
  • SJWs, trigger warnings, microaggressions
  • Terrorism, war
  • Anti-anything stamps
  • More topics to be added to this list as I see fit
I will still make light-hearted, fandom support, quotation/lyric [nothing about the aforementioned taboos], meme, and/or joke stamps from time to time, though. Also, this does not mean that I no longer support the LGBT and the advocacy of gender equity. I still very much do, always will. I'm also still willing to listen to people who wish to confide in me with their problems. I'm just tired of the online drama; that's all. I would like to focus more on my art and writing instead of stamps, despite the fact that controversial stamps are which most of my pageviews and audience come from. Yeah, as I've said, it's been a long time coming, but only now am I making this official announcement on my page.

In case you are wondering what I believe in...

  • Yes to gender equality, and all policies that favor it
  • Yes to LGBTs and same-sex marriage, as well as all policies that favor LBGT rights
  • Yes to racial diversity and equal representation
  • Yes to neurodiversity
  • Yes to legalized, regulated, consensual prostitution
  • Yes to medicinal marijuana
  • Yes to all policies that help the poor
  • Yes to GMOs
  • Yes to international trade
  • Yes to increasing funding for scientific research and arts
  • Yes to all policies that aim to protect the environment and stop/slow down/reverse climate change
  • Yes to abortion, but only as a last resort, the baby has been screened to have a major un-curable birth defect that will prevent him/her from functioning at all, and/or if the woman really does not want the baby.
  • Yes to free religious expression, as long as it does not trample on the rights of others to live a good, happy life
  • Yes to guns for self-defense, with strict background checks
  • No to mandatory religion subjects in public schools; electives on these are okay
  • No to animal testing of products
  • No to human trafficking and forced prostitution
  • No to all policies that favor males over females, and vice versa
  • No to all policies that are against LBGTs and other minorities
  • No to policies that discriminate on immutable aspects of a person, such as sexuality, race, height, etc.
  • No to policies that favor the rich over the poor
  • No to war, for any reason. Strengthening the military for defensive purposes is okay, though, but this won't be necessary if we live in a world without war.

Canvas by el-Jimmeister

And in case you are wondering about my identity, self-expression, and preferences...

  • I'm an Asian-American of Filipino, Spanish, Chinese, and American descent.
  • I identify as male, same as my biological sex. But I express myself aesthetically as an androgynous/feminine-looking guy for both practical reasons and preference. I usually wear women's clothes [that look like men's clothes anyway, such as blazers and plain, dark-colored shirts] because they flatter my really small frame better than most men's clothes I could find. I also have a naturally-feminine face that matches my small stature. Sometimes, I think that if there really is a creator-God, s/he probably decided to make me male at the last minute after already having previously planned for me to be female.
  • With that said, I was raised a Roman Catholic due to the Philippines [my home country] being Asia's largest Catholic nation, but my current beliefs are more similar to that of an agnostic atheist. I have the good fortune of having parents who are open-minded people about it despite being devout Catholics themselves.
  • I prefer masculine pronouns, but I do accept feminine and gender-neutral pronouns.
  • I am a Kinsey 3 bisexual, with a preference for feminine-looking people of either gender.
  • I have Asperger's Syndrome, with special interests in video games, rock/metal music, creative/fiction writing, 3D modelling, digital art, and architecture.
  • My Myers-Brigg type is INTP.
  • I don't think that I'm oppressed now. Sure, I was the more edgelord-goffik version of Carrie White back in high school, but I didn't end up killing everyone during prom. I was, rather, the more successful, non-telekinetic version of her in that I do have Christian parents [who are fortunately not fundies], I did sit with the popular kids in senior prom but only because no one else wanted to sit with me, and I happen to be friends with the student council president. Now, I feel rather... okay with things, I've long since moved on from those horrible days, although I still think the world needs a shit-ton of improving to do.

...yep. Another month off the window again. Life's been real busy for me. Although admittedly, I've been spending most of my spare time building Fallout 4 settlements instead of making stuff I'd upload here, but anyway, I've got another fanfic idea I've been working on.

I've also been spending some time watching other people suffer through shitty video games as a form of catharsis of sorts when my day isn't going that well. So, with that said, this fanfic idea is a slashfic that involves the crack pairing of Christopher Raven and Jake Conway from two games of this generation considered the worst, which are Vendetta: Curse of Raven's Cry and Ride to Hell: Retribution, respectively.

I simply noticed the similarities between the two games, such as the vendetta plot, the looks of the protagonists, the decent soundtrack despite the awfulness of the game, the otherwise-interesting concepts... So many of them, to the point that they are pretty much AUs of each other, so I decided to ship the two protagonists with each other. [Heh, geddit? Ship, because... pirates?]

The story was planned to be just a 5000-word PWP one-shot for the awesomest crack pairing evar, with an excuse plot of Jake somehow traveling back in time to the 1700s a la Big Rigs glitches and Chris noticing that this strange man from another time has a fine booty that just begs to be plundered. Yes, this will be explicit, and will be the first fully-smut fic I've ever written. This is no longer an April Fool's Day Joke, unlike last year. But it seems that this will be another serial sci-fi/historical fiction project exploring homosexuality and bisexuality in the 1700s, which was of course a time before psychosexology and everyone was assumed to only really be naturally attracted to the opposite sex. It will be a story told (mostly) through the perspective of a closeted gay biker guy and war veteran from the 1960s as he helps Christopher with a revenge mission which is all too similar to his own and tries to find out why and how his bike transported him back in time. He'll also need to adapt to the backwards technology, especially medical technology, the innovations of which he used to take for granted back in his time period.

It seems that I tend to fall into the habit of coming up with a joke prompt or writing crack fics about critically-panned stuff and ending up with a somehow more serious story about it, even though the jocose overall intention of the writing remains. Cases in point would be Plankton's Eye View (an extension of One Less Lonely Gurl that rips on C'ren's Mary Sue persona in the fucking prologue) as a serious heel-face-turn story for Plankton, the latter part of My Metal (a heavy metal parody of My Immortal) as a deconstructive commentary and a warning of sorts to future time travelers on introducing heavy metal music, and modern culture in general, to the farther past than the 1950s, and Naruto: Vengeance Revelations as a translation of an epic troll fic with both snarky commentary in-story and legitimate scientific/historical footnotes related to the chapter.

So, yeah. You'll be seeing this fic soon. But only if you're over 18, since I will flag the story as such. Be brave, you sons-of-bitches! Yaaaaaarrrrrrr!

It's a never-before-seen draft of the remake of Plankton's Eye View, my Spongebob Squarepants fanfic about Plankton turning over a new leaf after 10 years in prison and his journey towards renewing his long-gone friendship with Mr. Krabs, his arch-nemesis who used to be his best friend. I've been working on it for a while already with three chapters in and some snippets of later chapters, and I plan to publish it within this year. I have decided that I will only start publishing my serial fanfics as soon as I complete the first five chapters of it to make room for sudden updates and plot additions, as well as to ensure that I will always have next chapters to publish. With that said, updates will be done as soon as the 6th chapter is done, and so on. I have been thinking about this new system in which I will publish all future chapters of all my stories, with the exception of Naruto Vengeance Revelations, which is technically not my story anyway.

Here it is, but with a twist - it's in binary code. It's a new scene that will be about Karen coping with the loss of her husband and her sense of purpose, all of which led to her decision to leave Bikini Bottom for good. Since she's a computer, I think the binary code is a fitting way to visualize her thoughts.

If it helps, here's a binary-to-English [and vice-versa] translator.
