Description

This is my interpretation of Blake Langermann, the protagonist of Outlast 2. Before all hell broke loose.

Warning, some spoilers abound.

------------------------------

He's probably around 27 years old, judging by the fact that he was in 4th grade in 1995, and the game takes place in the year 2013. I headcanon him as a pretty boy, rather feminine-looking, based on the prophecies of the Scalled referring to him as 'fairer than a woman.' Well-built and slender-muscular, probably around 5'6-5'8 tall- he'd most likely be a relatively short/small guy compared to Miles Upshur at 6'1 based on the fact that he can squeeze through small windows, barrels, and tiny crawl spaces, as well as hide behind waist-high plants with little to no effort. He's also shorter than, if not barely as tall as, Jessica and Lynn in the group picture in his flashbacks, and he's only slightly taller than Lynn, his wife, at present. He was a nerd in middle school, as mentioned by Jessica, a former friend of his who was beaten and killed by Father Loutermilch and implied to be raped beforehand. Her death was framed by the priest as a suicide, and to this day, Blake still feels the guilt and the pain from not being able to save her, which would explain why he'd go to hell and beyond to save Lynn. He'd become too afraid to lose anyone close to him, only for that fear to be realized again when Lynn died of what seems to be a pseudopregnancy.

He may also be bisexual, which is implied a voice in his head that said he's not disgusting but rather confused. But as a devout Catholic and from years of being shamed by Father Loutermilch [an implication based on a phone call in his hallucinations in which the priest refers to him as a diseased cocksucker], his former music teacher, and learning from him that shame is a gift from God that allows him to tell right from wrong, he had since sublimated his same-sex attractions. And speaking of music, he's most likely a rock/metal fan, based on his chat handle 'BlakeAgainstTheMachine' [seen in a segment in which he chats online with Jessica in the computer room] which is definitely a shoutout to Rage Against the Machine. This may have also been something that Father Loutermilch was against, based on the conservative Catholic view on 'subversive music.'

And adding to the topic of rock and metal music, the game's plot is kinda similar to the story of the album The Elysian Grandeval Galèriarch by Infant Annihilator. Both of them involve horrific sexual imagery, hellish religious cults, and a lot of infant annihilation. I also headcanon that the aforementioned album by Infant Annihilator is a Filk Album of sorts for Outlast 2. And while the game is from Blake's perspective, the album is seen through the eyes of the other side, told from the point of view of Sullivan Knoth, the cult leader.

------------------------------

With that said, I'll be rewriting Waylon Was Always Beautiful to become closer to canon[despite being a crack fic in premise], as well as some chunks of my upcoming 50 Shades of Grey/Outlast crossover fic Christian Was Always Fucked-Up. I headcanoned Blake Langermann to be Lisa [nee Langermann] Park's cousin, and for Waylon Park to have met Lisa at some point in college. Blake had since become a popular frat boy who was majoring in journalism. Lynn had gone with him to take up the same major at the same college, and Lisa also became friends with her. Lisa Park, though normal for the most part, has an unusual fetish for men in lingerie, which once led Waylon to be self-conscious about his then-chubby figure, and later triggered flashbacks of his traumatic near-castration experience. Also, Christian Grey is part of Murkoff Corp. in the fanfic series, hiding behind a veneer of good looks, prestige, propriety, and charm, and behind all that, he'd be doing heinous, unspeakable things to the women he messes with, kinda similar to Clanden from Fallout New Vegas.

...at some angles he kinda looks like Harry Potter if he ended up in Slytherin House instead of Gryffindor. And Val, one of the antagonists, kinda looks like Draco Malfoy.

I have two theories as to what happened in the ending. The first theory is that baby is Jessica reincarnated somehow. The proof of it is the neck wound on Jessica's neck disappearing after collecting all the documents and notes. The second theory makes more sense: In the comics, the Walrider was dispersed thanks to Murkoff's weapon, forcing it to use a colony of ants as its host. The mind controlling towers placed around the village are related to the Morphogenic Engine, the very tool used to create the Walrider in the first game, hence the insanity and the phantom pregnancies. The Walrider could have also used the cultists as potential hosts, since, as Dr. Rudolf Wernicke pointed out, the subject has to be in a close proximity to death and experience overwhelming madness and more than enough horror to not only activate the Morphogenic Engine but become the host. This is something Sullivan Knoth, his followers and the heretics have accomplished by killing their own children and experiencing nightmares made by the radio towers. Knoth, under the influence of Murkoff, began to kill his own children to prevent the Walrider from gaining a host. So, either the Walrider used Lynn's baby as a potential host and her words, "There's nothing there." is her mind succumbing to the same madness, or there really is no baby and the Walrider is now using Blake as its host, taking advantage of his guilt and hallucinations. And as for the baby casting no shadow, it's probably a developer error.
